Training
We usually train on Tuesday nights at Fleming Park Leisure Centre in Eastleigh Lectures are run from 7:00-9:00pm followed by practical pool training from 9:00-10:00pm. Some photos of the 2004 pool training phase of the ocean diver course are posted here. You must be over 16 with a basic ability to swim and a reasonable level of fitness. New trainees must have undertake a medical examination with a doctor, then after this, there is annual self certification. During training we ask that you provide your own mask, fins and snorkel. We provide the rest. After training it should be notes that learn a lot by talking to people at the bar, working on the boat sessions, and of course diving with a lot of different people. training follows the programme compiled by the BSAC. Pool training typically takes around 10 weeks to progress to Ocean Diver (BSAC's entry level, or novice diver qualification) which includes open water dives and a theory test. Whilst training could end there we encourage all members to advance through BSAC Sports Diver qualification through to at least BSAC Dive Leader qualification. In addition to diving, we also organise other related training for boat handling, VHF radio operation, and rescue management including oxygen administration etc. Training courses will be displayed on the club notice board and on the events page of the website
